William Svoboda Swoboda:
Death claimed one of Clay county's long time resident in the vicinity of Green last week. For forty-four years he lived on the same farm north of Green and was always well liked by everyone who knew him. He was a quiet man, a great lover of his home and family and was kindly disposed toward all. He was a member of the Modern Woodman lodge and had many friends in the community where he had lived so long.
Wm. Swoboda was born in Skrivan, Austria, on June 13th, 1858, and departed this life at 11 o'clock Thursday morning December 22nd 1927, at the age of 69 years, 6 months and 9 days. In the year of 1875 he came with his mother and sister to Randolph, Riley county, Kansas. In 1883 he settled on a farm north of Green, on which he resided until the time of his death. In the year of 1894 he was united in marriage to Barbara Spacek. To this union nine children were born, two of whom preceded their father in death. He leaves to mourn his departure a wife and seven children: Mrs. Edith Rigel of Waterville, Kansas: George of Morganville, Kansas: Mrs. Frances Mateja of Chicago, Illinois: Bertha, Ella, Edward, and William at home. He also leaves a sister at Halletsville, Texas, and eight grandchildren. His death was due to Bright's disease and during his last illness he was given loving care by his faithful companion and his children were also with him.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, December 24 at 2 o'clock at the Swoboda home, being conducted by Homer Wroten, formerly pastor at Green, who was assisted by Rev. Hutchins. Burial was made in the Goshen cemetery.

NOTE: Obituary states Wm. Svoboda was born in Austria, fact is he was born in Czechoslovkia.
