ALCOVE SPRINGS
Information & Photos provided by Kenneth Rigel

Alcove Springs is a historic site between Blue Rapids and Marysville, on the old Schroyer road and has some great history. It was one of the stop off places on the Oregon Trail. What makes the Sarah Keyes burial so important is, some of her family from that particular wagon train, settled in the now, Marshal County area. Also, she was part of the Donner Party Wagon Train that didn't get across the Sierra Mountains before the snow came. As a result, they were stranded and run out of food. So the story goes, cannibalization took place as a matter of survival. Back to Sarah Keyes: Apparently, the family of Sarah left the wagon train, to stay in the area as a result of Sarah's death. .............. Kenneth
