Emil Rigel Dies At Vets Hospital

Death claimed Emil Rigel, 80, retired farmer, at the Veterans hospital, Lincoln, Neb. December 31, 1971 after a long illness.

Funeral services were held Sunday, January 2, 1972 at Perry er-obitpic.jpg - 6827 Bytes Funeral home, Blue Rapids, with Rev. Ralph Davis officiating.

Born November 9, 1891, the son of Frank and Lydia Smerchek at Barnes, he grew to manhood there and attended Jordan school.

While employed at Topeka, he entered World War I September 18, 1917 and served in Company D, 353rd infantry division. He received his discharge in March 1918 and was a member of the American Legion for more than 50 years.

He was married to Anna Sedivy at Topeka June 22, 1922 and they were the parents of four children. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Survivors are his widow, Anna of the home; his children Sister Theresa, Pine Ridgem S.D. ; Mrs Irma Nugent, Blue Rapids; Mrs Dorothy Clark, Salina and Kenneth Rigel, Las Vegas, Nev.; two brothers, George and Leonard Rigel, Barnes; eight grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Arthur Clear sang in The Garden and How Great Thou Art accompanied by Mrs. Grace Brooks.

Casket bearers were Arthur Clear, Alfred Carlson. Lee Jones, Edwin Brychta, Pete Wagoner, Maurice Boyd, all American Legion members. Burial was in Prospect Hill cemetery with arrangements by Perry Funeral home, Blue Rapids.
