Emil E. Rigel was born November 8, 1891 at Barnes,
Kansas to Frank and Lydia Smerchek Rigel, and died at the
Veteran's Hospital at Lincoln, Nebraska December 31st,
1971 at the age of 80 years, one month, and twenty two
days, after a long illness. He grew to manhood at Barnes and received his education at Jordon school. He was a farmer and worked a few years at Topeka, Kansas wen he was called to service on September 18, 1917. He served in Company D 353rd infantryand received his discharge March, 1918. He was a member of the American Legion for over fifty years. On Jume 22, 1922 he ws united in marriage to Anna Sedivy at Topeka, Kansas. To this union were born three daughters and one son. He is survived by his wife, Anna of the home; three daughters, Sister Teresa of South Dakota, Mrs. Irma Nugent of Blue Rapids, Mrs. Dorothy Clark of Salina; and one son, Kenneth, Las Vegas, Nevada; two brothers, George and Leonard of Barnes; eight grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, January 2, at the Perry Funeral Home at 2 o'clock with Rev. Ralph Davis officiating. Mrs. Kelma Clear sang "How Great Thou Art" and "In The Garden" Mrs. Grace Brooks accompaning. Casket bearers were . Lee Jones, A.E. Clear,Edwin Brychta, Alfred Carlson, Pete Wagoner and Bob Boyd. Interment was in Prospect Hill Cemetery. |
