Donald E. Rigel
Donald E. Rigel, 72, of 90 33rd Ave. SW, died Wednesday,
Jan. 5, 2000, in Mercy Medical Center after a short illimess.
At his request, graveside services will be held in Anderson
Cemetery near Swisher, at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, by Rev.
Charles Mehaffey. There will be no visitation. Arrangements
by Brosh Chapel.
Survivors include his wife, Alma; children, Carl Rigeland wife
Pamela of Grand Terrace, Calif., Doris Sickles and husband
Mark of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Brian Rigel and wife Renee
of Loganville, Ga.; grandchildren, Shawn Rigel and wife
Angelia of Cedar Rapids, Kelly Rigel of Cedar Rapids, PV2
Braden Sickles of Foot Hood, Texas, Taryn Sickles of
Lawrenceville, Ga., Andrew Rigel of Amana, Kristen Rigel of
Amana and Christopher Rigel Loganville, Ga.; and his
brother-in-law, Dennis Cech and wife Mary of Fairfax.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Albia
Horak Rigel; and a son, Wayne, who died July 27, 1976.
Born March 2, 1927, in Cedar Rapids, Don married Alma
Cech on Nov. 24, 1948, in Cedar Rapids. He served with
the Air Force during World War II and was a member of
American Legion Hanford Post 5. He farmed for 25 years,
later worked at Happels Farm Implement and retired from
Lefebure Corp. in 1989, after 17 years of service. He also
drove school bus for the College Commuity School District.
Don loved to play cards and joke and have fun. He played
the accordian, especially Czech music, and he played with
Bob Zeman and Ed Stangler bands. He enjoyed fixing
lawnmowers. In earlier years, Don was cub master of Pack
463.
Don was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will
be greatly missed by his family and never forgotten.
