Mrs. Edith Rigel
Mrs. Edith Rigel was born October 25, 1894 near Green, Kansas and passed away Sunday, August 2, 1965 at the age of 70 years, 10 months and 4 days at the Hanson Nursing Home in Junction City, Kansas after an illness of five months. Previous to that she had made her home in Manhattan, Kansas.

edithrigelobitpic.jpg - 10751 Bytes She was the eldest child of William and Barbara Swoboda, and she grew up in the Schaubel community north of Green. She was married to Albin F. Rigel on April 18, 1917. To this union was born five children. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband who died on May 10, 1953, and a daughter Bernice, who died in infancy.

She is survived by two daughters and two sons: Mrs. Lydia Baker of Manhattan, Kansas; Elmer RIgel of Pleasant Hill, California; Milo Rigel of Green, Kansas; Marilyn, Mrs. John Alford of Huntsville, Alabama, and nine grandchildren. Two brothers and three sisters also survive: George Swoboda of St. Petersburg, Florida, Ed Swoboda of Chicago, Illinois, Mrs Frances Mateja of Lake Worth, Florida, Mrs. Bertha Newell and Mrs. Ella Clark of Clay Center, Kansas; several nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Memorial services were held Wednesday afternoon, September 1, 1965 at the Neil-Schwensen Chapel, Clay Center, Kansas with Rev. Leslie Klocke officiating. Mrs. Delbert Schoning sang "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "Be Still My Soul", accompanied by Mrs. Martin Nanninga at the organ.

The casket bearers were: Charles Enke, James Noyes, James Yeager, Vaugn Lippert, George Whetstine and Dave Bloomberg.

Internment was in Greenwood Cemetery.
