Marie L. Musil

Marie L. Musil, age 101, of Manhattan, died early Monday morning, September 7, 1998, at the Stoneybrook Health Center in Manhattan. She was born on a farm near Blue Rapids, Kansas in Marshall County, on June 26, 1897, the daughter of Louis and Mary (Osner) Sedivy. Mrs. Musil graduated from Blue Rapids High School and received her teachers certificate from Emporia State Teachers College. She taught grade school for several years in Marshall County and later worked in a restaurant in Cleburne, Kansas and at a grocery store in Manhattan. From 1947 until 1994, she farmed with her son Lyle in the Cottage Hill area. Mrs. Musil was a member of the Swede Creek Home Demonstration Unit. She was especially family oriented and enjoyed cooking, puzzles and reading. In a joint wedding ceremony with her twin sister Anna, she married Fred Musil on June 22, 1922, in Topeka, Kansas. He preceded her in death on December 25, 1943. Mrs. Musil was also preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Jean Musil in 1924, by her son Lyle Musil in 1994 and by two sisters: Augusta Musil and Anna Rigel (twin) and by one brother: Adolph Sedivy. Mrs. Musil is survived by one daughter: Elaine M. Faith and her husband Bill of Manhattan; by one sister: Emily Horalek of Manhattan; by three grandchildren: Steven Faith, Manhattan, Colleen Wallace and her husband Charles, Emporia, Kansas; and Randall Faith and his wife Lindy, of Manhattan. Four great-grandchildren: Andrea and Travis Faith and B. J. and Sarah Wallace also survive.
