Mary Edna Rigel Obituary
Mary Edna Rigel, 9l, Greenleaf, died Saturday, Aug. 6,
1994, at Linn Community Nursing Home. Services were
at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, 1994, from the Barnes
United Methodist Church. The Rev. Deborah McDurrond
officiated. Leland Cook sang "In the Garden" and "How
Great Thou Art" and the congregation sand "Amazing
Grace" and "Just As I Am," accompanied by pianist Judy
Springer.
Pallbearers were Mike Thompson, Robbie
Oelschlagar, Gail Oelschlager, Kurtis Bargman and Charles
Steele. Burial was in the Maplewood Cemetery, Barnes.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Barnes United
Methodist Church or the Linn Community Nursing Home
and sent in care of the Terry Chapel and Funereal Home,
which was in charge of arrangements.
She was born March 31, 1908, at Topeka, the daughter of
Samuel and Ellen Detter Landis. She graduated from
Silver Lake High School in 1921. After receiving teacher
training, she taught in country schools around the Topeka
area for 11 years.
She married George J. Rigel May 1, 1934 at Topeka. He
died Dec. 22, 1983. She was a member of the Barnes
United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary Post
No. 0145 and the Spring Valley Club. She was a former
member of the Happy Hour Club and taught Sunday
school many years, and served on the church governing
board. Preceding her in death were her parents, one
brother and an infant sister.
Survivors are a son, Frank Rigel, Blue Rapids; a daughter
Georgia Oelschlager, Barnes; a brother, Harry Landis,
Grantville, Kan.; a sister, Ruth Landis, Topeka; seven
grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
